A few hours later, the monkeys were found scattered in different trees, but not cooperating with the trainers to come down. All the monkeys had escaped! Soon enough, the circus employees were scavenging around the island. The next morning, when Bud and Lou awoke, it was quiet, unusually quiet. The crew then anchored next to a quiet and peaceful island, while circus employees were asleep, that is except for the monkeys. While on the boat, the River Queen, their bumbling trainers Bud and Lou, put them in their little pens for the night, but never secured the doors correctly. Going back to the beginning, it was August of 1919 and monkeys of all of different species were on their way to perform their circus act for the citizens of Wagon Gap. As soon as the sheriff was alerted to the situation, he raced with his deputies over to the island to investigate.
